Surfin' North Korea
Serfs up!
I love that I'm starting to get assignments that aren't bike related as an illustrator. Kind of cool to see the progression in my work. This one is for Outside Magazine and deals with surf tourism in North Korea. Work wise it feels like a breakthrough in my technical ability to cartoon people... although, this guy is a bit of a cartoon already. Check out the article here: https://www.outsideonline.com/2338891/north-korea-travel-tourism-ethics

A few recent Bike Snob illistrations
Kissing Bike Lanes Is the New Kissing Babies. Since I broke my arm and can't really use my drawing hand I had to embrace the shakey line-look for the drawing. This is a good bit of writing: https://www. outsideonline.com/2327256/ bike-lanes-make-political- sense-too

New Bike Snob illustration
I really like this one: https://www.outsideonline.com/2321211/bikes-kids-racing
Fits perfectly with the Single Track Flyers group that just started in my small town of Houghton. Kids on bikes are good!

Spitfire watercolor painting
Minor accomplishment of the day: An illustration assignment that isn't bike related or because I used to ride bikes for a living. Spitfire the record setting whippet for Outside. Article here: https://www.outsideonline.com/2316776/spitfire-whippet-worlds-greatest-athlete

New drawing, the balance of bikes and cars.
What would it take to flip the balance between cars and bikes? The new Bike Snob over on Outside Mag considers the often irrational priority given to autos in the USA. A good read: https://www. outsideonline.com/2315926/our- surrender-automobile-absurd- and-deadlyhttps://www.outsideonline.com/2315926/our-surrender-automobile-absurd-and-deadly

Tesla Twister
When I get these drawing assignments I usually only get a headline and a small snippet of the story. Based on this title I didn't have a lot to go on but I guessed that maybe Elon should be shot into space because the MASSIVE screen in Tesla's and all their gadgetry is a huge distraction for drivers. I tried to come up with the most distracting thing you could be doing with the screen. Read Bike Snob's full story here: https://www.outsideonline.com/2314461/we-need-fire-elon-musk-space

Bike Snob likes to ride in the morning
New Outside Bike Snob article: https://www.outsideonline.com/2312031/ride-early-ride-often
I had quite a laugh drawing this one! A few inside jokes if you follow Bike Snob's blog. Sweet aero bars, sandals and a "crabon" frame. I personally think it looks extra ridiculous because I so obviously used his author headshot to draw from... as if he always has that exact same expression. Incidentally I've been getting up and riding early myself, but mostly because my stupid cat has started screaming for breakfast at 5am.

Another one for Outside
This one cracked me up top draw! A rider in the Paris-Roubaix had a tough race day. He refused to give up and showed up at the velodrome finish after the gates had been closed. Bike Snob writes about it here: https://www.outsideonline.com/ 2309156/resistance-futile

Bike Snob Drawings
I just started a new project illustrating the weekly Bike Snob blog over at Outside Magazine. Pretty stoked to be part of this since I am a huge fan of the Bike Snob's writing. Check out this post on The Ethics of Traffic Laws.
